Energy Viewpoints

We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class.  Using your background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.
Imagine you live in an area that has access to all eight types of energy studied in class.  If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select?  Please explain why.  In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.

  1. I would choose wind power. Wind power is a renewable source, and it also will not pollute the environment. Although it is renewable and will not pollute, it is also expensive to build the turbines/wind farms, which would be a disadvantage, but the wind is a free source.

  2. If I were in charge and I got to choose I would most likely choose the wind power because wind never stops blowing therefore it is renewable and it costs a couple thousand dollars and then the air is free. That is why I would choose the wind sources.

  3. The energy source I would chose is Petroleum I would chose it because it can be found in a lot of areas and it can be formed into many city needs such as food preservatives, football, and band aids . The problem of Petroleum is that you have to dig really deep to get it and it can cost money.

  4. I would choose Solar to be the energy resource they use. Solar provides great energy Because its either spend all at once on on solar power plant or a little at a time with putting them on houses. Even when the sun is not showing, because of the power plant or panels, the energy from the sun will be saved so you can still have electricity or heat in your home. Solar energy is a dependable resource and its renewable. ~ Patty F.

  5. The best way to obtain energy is Hydropower. Hydropower is renewable because it uses water and land, which will never run out or decrease. Hydropower is the outcome of harnessing energy from running or falling water. Hydropower also does not pollute the environment, and although it benefits the environment and will never run out or decrease, the machines are expensive and have high standards for usage.

  6. I think the best energy source is geothermal energy. Good things about it are that it is renewable which is good so that it will never run out. Another positive is about it is that it doesn’t cost very much money and is cheap. Another thing that makes geothermal a good energy source is because it does not make pollution or hurt the environment in any way. The only bad things about it are that it is very hot, which is not that bad because they can make something that prevents them from getting hurt, and accessibility which might be bad, but at least it is non renewable and will always be enough to use.

  7. I believe that coal is the best energy source. I believe this because coal can easily be sored, and it is easy to get its energy out. coal when burned relises steam and the steam can turn turbines witch can generate electricity. Unfortunately it is non renewable.

  8. Out of all the energy resources, the one that really I think would work the most is solar power. I think it’s the most renewable idea.It has no pollution effect on the enviorment and thousands of people use solar power everyday so it must be trustworthy. But one downside is that solar power has dangerous fluids inside of it and that can hurt the animals. Even though that is a big problem, I support solar power.

  9. I think they should pick Nuclear or Wind energy, Nuclear energy can be produced in many different places.Wind energy is the second cheapest type of energy. Nuclear energy is very unsafe if it is not handled carefully. There could be a Nuclear meltdown, like the one in Chernobyl. Wind farms take up massive amounts of land, and there are less places they can be put.

  10. If I lived in a place where the people got to choose what energy source we used, I would pick wind. I would pick wind because it is best for the planet, and it is inexpensive and has easy access. Wind turbines are expensive to buy but in the end it is probably one of the less expensive energy sources because wind is free. Wind is also renewable so we would not have to worry about running out of wind. One of the disadvantages to using wind as an energy source it does not blow all the time. You could look at that two ways, as a bad thing because you can't watch TV or use the microwave, but how I see is it that sometimes its nice to go a day without TV or microwave dinners. There are plenty of things that you can do in a day without energy, especially if its nice outside. The main reason I would choose wind is because it is safe for the earth and it is inexpensive when it comes down to it.

  11. I would choose wind as the energy source for the city. Wind is a renewable energy source because there will always be wind and it doesn't cost a lot because there is wind almost anywhere. But, if you build turbines for the wind, it can get very expensive.

  12. I would place a wind farm to power the city. The wind farms are renewable energy and they are built fast. If we are lucky, we can get the wind farm up in a couple of weeks. They are used to power things like schools and homes. Even when the wind is not blowing, they turbines are still working. They use fossil fuels to power the farms in case of that situation. Wind farms are expensive to build, but after that the wind is free. Yet, the wind must be fast and strong to work the turbines correctly. According to all the advantages, the wind farms would be the best
    choice to power this city.

  13. If I were in charge of choosing the energy resource I would choose petroleum. I would choose petroleum because it is located all around the USA. I would also choose petroleum because petroleum is in objects we use in our daily lives and don't know it. A example of the objects are shampoo, credit cards, and lipstick. One bad thing about petroleum is that it is non-renewable and that it takes over a million years to reproduce. If I were in charge of choosing a energy resource I would choose Petroleum.

  14. If I had to choose an energy source to power a place I lived in, I would choose Hydropower. Hyrdopower is when water flowing into a generator spins the generator, which produces energy. Although building these types of facilities are very expensive, once built, the process is very good and productive. There are some disadvantages such as the facilities getting destroyed or heavy drought happening, which causes water to not flow. On the other hand, Hyrdopower is a very eco-friendly and productive energy source that is used in many places. Thus, I would like my location to be powered by Hydropower.

  15. If I lived in an area that had access to all of the eight types of energy sources the one I would select to use in a city would be wind. I would choose this energy source because wind is very renewable and will never stop coming, and on days that it is not so windy they use a non fossil fuel to keep it going. Also wind energy does not cause pollution. Although, if I was going to make a turbine I would need lots of money to make it. As you can see, l pick wind energy for a couple reasons.

  16. If I could choose in between any of these eight energy resources, I would pick Solar energy. I would chose this because the sun will not go out and can give tons of power to one home. Although there are some disadvantages, there are not many. One of these is that it will take up a lot of space, time, and money to set up for your home. There are more disadvantages, but more positives. Two positives are that the sun will never go out, as stated above, and that even if the sun isn't out, it will store energy into the solar panels allowing power for cloudy and rainy days.

  17. If I were in charge of choosing a energy source i would choose wind. One reason is that wind does not cause pollution. Another reason is it is renewable. Also it is not that much money but you only have to pay once. It is not always working because wind is not always blowing. Wind is good because it is not expensive and is renewable. It is also built faster then all the others. Last it does not cause pollution. Now that is why I would choose wind.

  18. If I lived in an area with all access to every energy source, I would pick solar. Soar is renewable, which means you can use it all the time and he best thing is that it provides energy and heat to everyday things. Some advantages of solar are that there are no air pollution and no greenhouse gases. One disadvantage is that there are some toxic materials, chemicals, various solvents, and and alcohols that are used in the manufacturing of a photovoltaic (a solar cell that changes solar energy to electrical energy.) I think solar would be a helpful and reliable source to use in the area that I live in. What do you think?

  19. If I were to choose an energy source to use for Blakeville, I would choose petroleum. I am not choosing petroleum because that was the energy source I studied, but because of the many uses of petroleum. Petroleum is in many of the objects we use daily. Petroleum is found under the surface of the ocean, and 70% of the Earth is made up of large bodies of water such as oceans, therefore the is a great supply of petroleum. There is only one great disadvantage of the use of petroleum, it is hard to reach and non renewable. Some advantages of using this energy source are, you can find petroleum almost all across the United States, and that petroleum isn't just for the uses of objects in our daily lives but also used to power buildings and cities with its powerful energy.

  20. If I was in charge of picking the energy source that my city would use, I would pick solar. I would pick solar for many good reasons. One of those reasons is that this energy source is renewable and we will always have it. Solar also doesn’t give off pollution when it is used. This energy would power our lights and other home appliances. It could also power roller coasters and other rides in our city. The only disadvantages of using this resource is the time and space it takes to build the solar panels. Overall, solar energy would be the best energy resource to use in the city.

  21. If I was in charge of choosing an energy source for a city then I would choose solar. I would pick solar for the city’s energy source because solar energy is clean. That means that it does not pollute the air with greenhouse gases or other types of pollution. Another reason that I would pick solar is, solar does not affect the environment if it is placed on buildings. The last advantage of solar energy is solar is, solar is a renewable energy source and that is never runs out, unlike other sources of energy. For example, coal and oil are not renewable energy sources. One disadvantage of using solar energy is the minerals (tellurium in cadmium telluride) used to make the solar panels are not found in the ground and are very rare. Those are the advantages and disadvantages of using solar energy.

  22. If I lived in an area with all the energy types in it and I were In charge of choosing which one I think would be the best Energy source, I would choose solar energy I would choose solar because it is renewable. The sun is a star, and stars have to die. So eventually the sun will die and leave the planets in our solar system without sunlite. But, the sun is said to not die in the human lifetime, so it is a renewable energy source. I also choose solar energy because it is environmentally friendly because it doesn't give off any pollution into the air. One reason why I would be against solar energy is because it takes up a lot of space when it is installed. That means less plant life and that we destroy animals habitat when we install solar panels. Overall though, solar energy is a really good source of energy to have.

  23. I would pick Natural Gas. I would choose this because it is a very safe resource and is easy to use. It powers almost everything in your house From your lights, to the toaster. however, it has a downside. Due to the burning process of the fossil fuel, it does harm the enviroment a little bit

  24. I would choose hydropower as valuable and efficient power source for electricity. Some advantages of hydropower are that it is renewable, and it uses the earth’s water cycle to produce electricity. One disadvantage is that building dams are pricey and they have to be built at high standards. If a major flood comes through, dams can be destroyed. Luckily hydropower facilities can last many decades.I think hydropower would be an efficient, helpful, and great resource to have in the city.

  25. I would chose wind because wind is less expensive than other energy resource. All you need is wind turbines that can cost 1000 to 1050 dollars. Other energy resources like solar panels cost millions of dollars. Another reason I would chose wind because it is renewable because it will always be windy. There are also many disadvantages of wind like it can cause sand storms and can kill birds.

  26. I think that coal would be the best power source to use for Blakeville because its easy to find and it is used fora lot of things but the problem is that coal is non-renewable and it can run out any time now because we use it so much in every day life.

  27. If I were in charge of choosing the energy resource, I'd have to go with wind. Sure the items that wind needs to be turned into energy are quite expensive, that's the only downside, but wind doesn't hurt the environment at all! It's completely natural and it is a very strong source of power. And, wind is renewable. I'm pretty sure it's not going away... there's wind creating all the time! That's why I believe wind would be the best source of energy for the city.

  28. If I lived in Blakeville I would choose to use Wind power. I would use wind power because it is renewable as long as the wind keeps blowing. Wind turbines cost less than most energy power plants. But, the wind turbine still cost's a chunk of money.

  29. If I were to choose an energy source used by the city in the area, then it would be hydropower. The reasons I would choose hydropower is because it doesn’t harm the environment and it is a reliable source of energy. You can count on hydropower to power anything using electricity such as light from a light bulb. It doesn’t affect the environment, either. Once the water is used to make the energy, the water is put back into its original flow path with no other chemicals added in.

  30. I would select wind because it can power schools and houses. Turbines help this power these things. It can save people a lot of money and it is very renewable. The only disadvantage is that if it is snowing or raining with no sun you cold have no light. Wind can be loud, but it is very useful

  31. If I could choose any Energy Rescore to use in a city, it would be Geothermal Energy. Why I would pick this energy resource is, it is renewable. Unlike lets say coal where you must pay for the rescore because it is a natural source. No harm to the environment would be anthor reason why I would choose Geothermal, it does not cause any pollution. Also, it does not have a extreme disadvantage, the only disadvantage of using Geothermal is the accesability. Magma is the main source of Geothermal Energy. Magma is below the earth's crust so it could be hard to get to. That's why I think you should pick Geothermal Energy.

If I had to choose a energy source I would choose wind. One reason is that it does not cause pollution because wind is natural and will not leek or do other bad stuff. It is also cheap, because once you have the terbind up then you don't have to pay again. One negative is that wind does not blow all the time. A positive is that it is built fast than most others.
